Onions, Leeks, Shallots, Garlic, Mushrooms
You may be thinking, “Odd group”. I put these foods together because they are not only really good for you, but they are great flavor enhancers for recipes involving a lot of vegetables. They are also great for immunity-building, which is important on all levels.
I’ll start with the onion and garlic group, the allium family of vegetables which includes all forms of onions, red, yellow, green, Vidalia, Maui, Walla Walla, leeks, shallots, scallions, chives and garlic. These power players contain anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiviral, anti-allergenic, and antioxidant compounds. They are the “anti” answer to all things bad for the body! They also are well documented for boosting the immune system.
