These berries are best eaten fresh, or frozen, not cooked. They lose much of their nutritional density when heated.

Blueberries are a food that really is best bought organic because of the high pesticide residue that may exist on the skin, which is eaten. If they are not organic they should be washed with a vegetable wash and drained well before eaten. They should be kept dry since water caused them to decay rapidly. Ripe blueberries should be stored in the refrigerator in a covered container. Remove any damaged or molded berries because they will cause spoilage in the rest of the bunch. Wash them just before eating. Washing removes the bloom which protects the skin from degradation.
